24th June 2011
Upcoming Dialogue | 28th June 2011, Co-organised with OECD; CPD. Beyond Istanbul
The Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA), adopted at the fourth UN LDC conference, aims at helping the world’s poorest countries combat poverty during the upcoming decade. But what does the IPoA really mean for LDCs? Where is further work needed and what can be done about possible weaknesses?
During the Istanbul conference, the EU presented the reform of the generalized system of preferences (GSP) to the LDC community. This reform aims at helping developing and least developed countries to export their products easier to the European Union.
The morning sessions will assess the measures adopted with the IPoA and identify possible monitoring mechanisms and follow up actions. In the afternoon, speakers will discuss the EU GSP proposal and provide their perspective on it.
The dialog is open to the public and will bring together LDC delegates, policy makers, trade negotiators, international organizations, and experts from the academia working in the area of trade and development. Throughout the meeting translation will be available.
