With the process of revised requests and offers in the negotiations on trade in services continuing, identifying the sectors and modes of supply that will bring the greatest degree of benefits is of critical interest to Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
The Mission of Zambia to the WTO in collaboration with the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the Quaker United Nations Office provided an informal and off-the-record forum for Geneva-based and capital-based members of the LDC Group 12-14 May 2006. The two primary objectives of the workshop were to discuss and better understand the strategic interests and technical challenges facing developing countries, in particular LDCs, in the context of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) negotiations as well as to engage a broad range of trade negotiators from Geneva, complemented by selected capital-based officials actively involved in formulating trade in services policies at the domestic level and other key experts involved in trade in trade in services issues.
