The International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the Global Economic Governance Programme of the University of Oxford are pleased to organize a dialogue on the future of the WTO , entitled “Strengthening Multilateralism in Trade for Sustainable Development: Reforming the WTO for the Future”. The dialogue will take place on September 30th 2009, from 14:15 - 16:15 at the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Room CRI.
Background:
As a vital and valuable institution, how does the WTO adapt to the changing political and economic realities
of the trading system, the global financial crisis, and the pressing challenges of sustainable development? This year’s Public Forum comes amidst growing interest among a diversity of stakeholders in these longer-term global challenges, and the reforms they will demand of global economic governance and of the WTO system in particular. The core theme of this panel will be to highlight the specific institutional challenges facing the WTO and to consider options for addressing them.
