Environmental goods: What Matters for GRULAC Member Countries?

An ICTSD Informal Roundtable for GRULAC Countries

19th July 2009

The International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) is pleased to organize an Informal ICTSD Roundtable on Environmental Goods for the Group of Latin American and Caribbean (GRULAC) Countries on July 20th 2009.  The Roundtable will take place in the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Press Room, from 13.15 hrs to 16.30 hrs, and will be preceeded by a buffet lunch.

ICTSD has invited Mr. Jaime Garcia, Executive Vice-President of ConsultAndes S.A in Lima, Peru to present his findings on some of the dynamic trends and opportunities in environmental goods for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. These will be based on a statistical analysis of goods contained in the OECD and APEC lists, the list of ‘153’ environmentally products informally proposed by the ‘Friends of Environmental Goods’ and an list of indicative Environmentally Preferable Products (EPPs) based on end-use or disposal criteria.

We have also invited Dr. Veena Jha, Executive-Director of Maguru Consultants, UK to present her findings with regard to trade and market drivers for the GRULAC region in key technologies and goods associated with renewable energy supply.

This informal roundtable is intended to provide a valuable opportunity for key trade delegates from the GRULAC region to engage in an open discussion with Mr. Garcia and Dr. Jha on important areas of concern to them in WTO environmental goods negotiations and how they might best be addressed.
