What constitutes an enabling environment for the uptake of technologies and associated goods in the renewable energy and buildings sectors? What is the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in contributing to such an enabling environment? How could international development agencies and the private sector help scale up trade and investment in these technologies, particularly in developing countries? And what is the best way to harmonize energy efficiency standards from a trade and climate change perspective?
This side event will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in an open discussion on the role of trade in the diffusion of climate-friendly goods and technologies. The side event will feature presentations on new research in the area. Key results of a study on trade flows and market-drivers for climate-friendly technologies in the renewable energy supply and buildings sector will be highlighted. There will also be a presentation on a study on the harmonization of energy efficiency regulations.
This event is open to the public.
