Senior Advisor on Climate Change Negotiations

The objective of this position is to advance ICTSD’s mission through the effective and efficient delivery of the ICTSD Global Platform on Climate Change, Trade Policy and Sustainable Energy (GP).

The Advisor will develop and deliver, in conjunction with relevant ICTSD staff, a strategy for Trade and Climate Change within the context of the UNFCCC up to, during, and after the UNFCCC Convention of the Parties in Copenhagen, Denmark (December 2009). 

The candidate for this position should possess the following abilities:

  • Advanced degree in law, political science, international relations, international public policy and/or other related field;
  • Minimum eight years professional experience at the international level, with at least four in project-management level positions;
  • Experience with the international negotiations on climate change, preferably at the policy-making and/or technical levels;
  • In depth knowledge of the UNFCCC, its negotiations, and the parties involved;
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a group and demonstrated capacity to develop and deliver on strategic work involving numerous players and collaborators;
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to express complex concepts in language accessible to non-specialist audiences;
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work in parallel on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of either French or Spanish;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative; and,
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment, with highly diverse external audiences and as part of a team.

This is a full time fixed one year term position, extendable subject to funding availability.
