As of 1 May, Mr. Hamid MAMDOUH will succeed David Hartridge as the new Director of the WTO Trade in Services Division. Mr. Mamdouh is currently Senior Counselor in the same division. Mr. Mamdouh is Secretary of the WTO Council for Trade in Services and is also responsible for all legal affairs in the area of Trade in Services. During the Uruguay Round negotiations, his responsibilities included legal matters relating to the drafting of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS).

Prior to the establishment of the WTO, Mr. Mamdouh was assistant to the Deputy Director-General of the GATT and legal advisor on GATT dispute settlement. Before his GATT/WTO career, Mr. Mamdouh was a member of the Diplomatic Service of Egypt, inter alia as representative of Egypt to the GATT in Geneva, trade policy advisor to the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of Egypt, and commercial attaché of the Egyptian Embassy in Canberra, Australia.
