Policy network: the Windsor Initiative

At the global level, there is a lack of opportunities for key actors to come together to define a collective agenda that would promote a pro-poor, sustainable agricultural trading system.

ICTSD is promoting collective action through a loose network of negotiators, policy makers, experts, and NGOs with a view to defining and monitoring a pro-poor, sustainability-oriented agenda on agricultural trade policy. Elements of this agenda, as well as a mechanism to promote, facilitate and review its advancement, were agreed at the Windsor Dialogue in July 2004. This mechanism functions as an open-ended network of concerned individuals, acting in their personal capacity, and of organisations, policy and academic institutes.

Most recently, ICTSD has examined how a draft Doha farm deal would affect the EU, US, Japan, China, India, Brazil, Mauritius and Burkina Faso (in English, in French).
