While having an essential impact on development and livelihoods in arid and semi-arid regions, trade policies and trade tools are yet to be fully integrated in policy approaches to address land degradation.
ICTSD’s work on trade and sustainable land management focuses on generating analytical thinking on the use of trade policy to achieve objectives of sustainable land management and bring a trade and sustainable development perspective to policy processes addressing land degradation. Our project explores the opportunities for and constraints to using trade as an incentive to promote sustainable land management in drylands.
